Katie Johannesson is a native of Hampton, Virginia. A wife and mother of one, she has been living in Richmond for 20 years. Katie began dancing at the age of 5 and singing at the age of 9. She competed in voice for the talent portion of a statewide pageant and earned first runner up. Throughout high school, she participated in Select Chorus, District Chorus, Show Choir, and was a captain of the the Dance Team at J. R. Tucker High School. Katie competed in many different categories of dance in competitions and was selected as an “All American Dancer” to dance in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade at the Eastern Regional Dance Competition. She enjoyed being in various theatre productions and performed in many dance recitals as well growing up. Katie attended Virginia Intermont College where she was awarded “Most Promising Talent” and graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory where she studied Theatre and a classical approach to voice as well.
After graduating from college, Katie taught music, drama, and dance at Child Development Center At Wyndham for many years. She wrote and adapted many plays from children’s books that included original music for the children to perform. She has also enjoyed performing as costumed characters at birthday parties for children.
Katie has enjoyed performing as a professional singer at many different local venues, events, and abroad with her husband. She has performed as a lead character in shows at King’s Dominion Theme Park where she was nominated by the staff to be chosen as “Best Female Theme Park Performer.” Katie has been involved in Worship Arts for eight years at Christ Church and Hope Church, and currently leads worship with her husband at Bon Air Baptist James River Campus. She has also directed several music, dance, and drama camps at Passion Academy. She is very excited for the opportunity to work with all of the amazing families and staff at Passion Academy.
