Daniel started dancing at the age of 10. He soon accomplished success. At 12, he was the regional Solo Champion in Freestyle. At 13, he won the National South African Boys 13-16 section.
At 15, Daniel then competed internationally obtaining 3rd, in the United Kingdom Freestyle Championships, held in Isle of White; England. Daniel also finished off with a brilliant 2nd at the World Freestyle Championships held in Blackpool, England.
Finally as an amateur dancer, he was the undefeated National South African Overall Champion of Champions for 2 years.
Daniel has danced across the World. From India in a Bollywood Film ‘Jeans’ to A Cruise Liner in Singapore. Kenya to London. Daniel has performed in numerous televised shows and choreographed for various corporate events. These include year end functions for Standard Bank, Investec, MTN, Sasol, KFC, Old Mutual, Peugeot etc. He managed, cast and choreographed 130 dancers across South Africa for both the Cricket World Cup, as well as the IPL. Daniel was the choreographer for all T20 international cricket events for 7 years across the country. During the 2010 Soccer World Cup, Daniel put on shows for Sony, MTN, and more.
Daniel has also trained world class dancers. Shannon Weir won the World ShowDance Championships in Germany, against 40 top qualifying dancers from across the world. Kalon Badenhorst won the World Cup in Jazz , held in Algarve; Portugal in 2014. Kalon also won the World Freestyle and Slowdance Championship in England. Kalon achieved this feat as the junior winner in 2013 and again in the senior section in 2015.
He is the only South African to have achieved this.
Daniel trained ‘Forests End’. This Contemporary Group achieved 3rd place at The World Jazz & Modern Championships in Poland. He also won the coveted Diamond Choreographer awarded by the American Dance Awards for ‘Forest End’. The piece highlights the devastation caused by mismanaged forestry – the sad effect on the animals in the forest.
Damen Botes (10) and Raul Martins (9), have consistently been the South African representatives to the World Dance championships for 3 years. No other school has managed to beat these youngsters. As a duo, they obtained 3rd place at the UDO Breakdance and Hip Hop World Championships held in Glasgow, Scotland. They also won top awards in Croatia at the Dance Stars. Damen has appeared on various television shows including ‘I am a work of art’ as well as ‘Play Network’.
Shannon Weir (18), placed 2nd Runner Up Overall in New York at the nals of the American Dance Awards. This particular competition takes the best dancer from every state in the USA and the top girl from SA. She also won the Jazz section.
Daniel and his Jazz group ‘Showtime’ completed the year as the top JAZZ group in SADTA. They went on to represent South Africa in Barcelona, Spain at the International Fine Arts Association. From 37 countries and over 100 dances, Daniel was awarded Best Choreographer.
Daniel owned and operated DS Dance Studio in Johannesburg, South Africa for over 20 years. He also taught at the Christian School of the Arts for 5 years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Psychology and Communication. His minors were Philosophy, English and Sociology. Daniel also holds an Honors Degree in Clinical Psychology, UNISA.
Daniel Swanepoel is a trainer of various World Dance Champions. He is a master in his field. Passion Dance was honored to have him as a guest mentor at Dance Fusion Camp last summer.
Daniel and his family are very excited to begin a new chapter in Richmond, VA and we are honored to have him join our family of mentors.
