Passion Academy is proud to introduce our newest mentoring program: Media Production. Whether you’re a beginning photographer, an aspiring professional photographer, video producer or simply want to gain excellence with your craft, this program will help you achieve your goals in media production. Do you want to master your camera, launch a new product for your business, improve your lighting techniques or simply learn how to shoot portraits with confidence? Each session provides hands-on experience in a wide range of industry training.

INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHY PART 1

These sessions include hands-on demonstrations and photography assignments that help you understand the proper use of your digital camera, whether working with a digital SLR or mirrorless model. Students will leave with both an understanding of digital photography, cameras, and a greater confidence in the use of sophisticated photography equipment. Students explore major camera controls, functions, components and accessories. Learn photographic essentials as these sessions also cover the interrelationship between light, ISO, shutter speed and aperture, metering light for correct exposure; and how different focal length lenses affect the look of our images. Throughout the sessions, you will gain an understand both the use of cameras and the processes of photography.

INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHY PART 2

Building on the basic camera instruction provided in Introduction to Photography Part 1, these sessions focus on the substantial advantages of the RAW workflow. The digital photographic process will be demystified, including interpolation, white balance, digital color, and file formats. Simple photographic lighting techniques will be demonstrated using natural and artificial sources and electronic flash. The sessions conclude with a challenging practical assignment: using a single light source and simple light modifiers, each student will create a complex, powerfully lit conceptual studio photograph in the session.

STUDIO LIGHTING

It takes experience and know-how to be proficient at Studio lighting and set-up. In these studio lighting sessions, you will learn how to use various studio lighting options. Different light configurations are covered and the sessions include projects to experiment with lighting options as they are presented.

• Setting up one, two and three lights

• Discovering how to meter ambient and strobes
• A camera that can be set in manual mode and a flash, either detached or integrated, is required for these sessions. All other lighting used in these photography sessions are supplied by Passion Academy.

LIGHTING AND COMPOSITION

These sessions cover lighting and composition where you’ll learn how to compose a photograph and create more successful images without the guesswork. You will find out how to confidently take beautifully composed images as well as apply lighting that will improve the image even more. Both natural and artificial light sources are covered in these sessions, as well as broad and spot lights, reflections, falloff, rim lighting, reflectors, and the use of shadows to emphasize your subject. Learn to see and manipulate light in order to produce beautiful imagery for portraiture and still life.

PHOTOSHOP LIGHTROOM

These sessions are for photographers and graphic professionals who use Lightroom or require an understanding of image editing tools available in Photoshop Lightroom. Experienced Lightroom users who have never received formal training or are upgrading from previous versions will benefit from tips, tricks, and techniques covered in these sessions.
• Overview of Adobe Lightroom

• Post processing features
• Exporting and printing from Lightroom
• We recommend that you have the Photoshop Lightroom application before starting these sessions. We use the most current version of Photoshop Lightroom (version 5), but it is applicable to earlier versions of Lightroom as well.

SMARTPHONE AND IPHONE PHOTOGRAPHY

Smartphones have improved with better cameras and apps for capturing, managing, editing, and sharing photos. If you want your photography skills to match the capabilities of your iPhone or Android phone, then these sessions are for you. You will find out how to use your smartphone to take photos that are composed and well lit. You’ll also learn how to use essentials controls on your phone along with the best free and low-cost tools for editing and image management.

FINAL CUT PRO

These sessions include training on Final Cut Pro and provide you with the comprehensive skills you need to import, edit, and encode your video projects. Topics include importing media, creating and managing your project, adding or adjusting audio, as well as adding transitions, titles, and effects.

As you progress, you’ll expand upon your existing video editing skills to learn more advanced editing techniques. You’ll understand how to better manage projects, work more efficiently, create more complex edits, and adjust audio and video using Final Cut Pro.

This weekly mentoring program offers two different schedule and pricing options:

• $50 per 60-minute session
• $60 per 90-minute session

At his core, Joel Woods is an artist. Gaining a interest in photography and filmmaking to further his music career with a professional look, Joel bought his first digital SLR camera several years ago. He began to study and experiment with the camera and it became more than just a hobby. Several lenses and cameras later, he can tell you the “ins and outs” of shooting photos or videos. If you want to learn how to be ready to photograph landscapes, portraits, weddings, senior photos, and know how to use the best settings to capture that perfect moment; this media class is where you start. In addition to producing most of Passion Academy’s media, Joel runs his own photography and video business.
